The mission
To defend, maintain, and champion democracy by educating the public and facilitating
civic engagement.
Who we are
Foundation for Government Legitimacy is being developed as a nonprofit civic platform and civic engagement initiative.
We have created software that is designed to restore public trust in government, strengthen the connection between voters and their representatives, and .
The organization will provide free access to civic information, publish data for scientific research, and promote civil rights, including the right to vote and the right to redress and petition the government.
The secondary commitment
The Foundation for Government Legitimacy is committed to the security of your data and privacy. Trust is the foundation of civic engagement. Without it, our mission fails. Your data is not a commodity—it is a sacred trust.
We protect it with industry-leading security, transparent practices, and an institutional structure designed never to exploit it. Your privacy enables democracy.
what we do
Americans increasingly feel disconnected from their government. Trust in federal institutions is at historic lows, most people believe their voice doesn't matter in politics, and we're all drowning in conflicting information about elections and policy. FGL is building a platform to change that. Here's how it works: you verify your voter registration through our app, and we connect you directly with the elected officials you can actually vote for—your city council members, state representatives, school board members, judges, and more. From there, you can track what they're doing, understand their positions on issues that matter to you, and communicate with them. It's straightforward civic infrastructure designed to make government responsive and transparent.
What makes FGL fundamentally different is that we're structured as a public benefit nonprofit, not a commercial platform. This matters because it changes every incentive. We can't sell your data to political campaigns, advertisers, or anyone else—our bylaws prohibit it. We can't be acquired by a tech company and transformed into a profit center. We're required by law to remain transparent about our finances and to serve the public interest. We're also strictly nonpartisan: we serve all voters equally, provide equal access to information about all elected officials regardless of party, and accept no campaign contributions. That structure—legally binding, transparent, accountable—is exactly why nonprofits earn the highest trust rating of any American institution.
We're launching with a pilot in San Francisco, but our vision is national: to become trusted civic infrastructure that millions of Americans rely on to stay informed and engaged. We're not here to replace government or push any political agenda. We're here to make democracy actually work—to give citizens the tools and information they need to participate meaningfully, and to give elected officials a reliable way to hear from the constituents they serve.
the Founding Board
The Board of Directors serves as the guiding force behind the Foundation for Government Legitimacy, united in our commitment to defend, maintain, and champion democracy by educating the public and facilitating civic engagement. Our founding board brings together complementary expertise spanning the essential foundations of FGL's mission—deep understanding of governance and civic life, technical excellence in building reliable infrastructure, and legal stewardship to protect the organization's integrity.
Each director contributes distinct strengths while sharing an unwavering belief that restoring public trust in government is both urgent and achievable. As FGL grows, we will expand the Board to include greater diversity, more perspectives, and an even broader array of expertise, further strengthening our ability to serve the American public.
jeremy smith
The Visionary
Jeremy Smith founded FGL because he recognized that Americans weren't apathetic about democracy—they were disconnected from it. With expertise in constitutional law and political theory, Jeremy understood that when citizens feel uninformed and excluded from the political process, democracy itself begins to fail. He built FGL to solve this problem by creating a trusted infrastructure that reconnects citizens with their representatives.
Beyond his legal and political scholarship, Jeremy brings diverse leadership experience: service as a nonprofit board director, chairman roles for nonprofit events and campaigns, youth leadership and educational program development, and entrepreneurial success, founding and operating a Florida real estate brokerage, property management company, and investment ventures. This combination of scholarly depth, nonprofit leadership, and entrepreneurial execution equips him to lead FGL with both idealism and pragmatism.
